Server Installation
Interbase v 6.02 Open Edition is used as a database server. For those who own or prefer to
use an officially supported version of Interbase, LAN Survey also supports Borland's
certified Interbase version 6.5 as a database platform. Licensing and pricing information
for this product is available at www.borland.com/interbase.
IMPORTANT:
CFH Software recommends not to install the LAN Survey database on a computer already running an Interbase server older than version 6. Before considering an upgrade, you should at least check the compatibility of existing Interbase applications with Interbase version 6. When you decide to upgrade, make sure you have a decent backup and shutdown the existing Interbase server before running the LAN Survey setup program. Please note that upgrading Interbase is entirely at your own risk. In case you run the LAN Survey setup program on an existing Interbase 6 server, you should cancel the integrated Interbase setup. The LAN Survey setup program will detect and attempt to configure the existing server.
A server installation is a fairly straightforward process. You may use any 32-bits Windows version as a server platform. However we strongly recommend to use Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 or Windows XP as a server platform, since these Windows are able to run the Interbase server as a service. When you decide to use Windows 95, 98 or ME as a server platform, you must logon as a user before Interbase is started. Automatic logons are an option but also create security risks for your network.
